Jerusalem Street Orchestra
2013

Founded in 2013, the Jerusalem Street Orchestra is a classic chamber orchestra comprised of talented performers, graduates of Jerusalem’s Music Academy. The orchestra’s mandate is to make classical music accessible to new audiences, to enrich the public arena with high-quality culture, and to provide a stage for Jerusalem’s young creators and musicians.

The orchestra performs in open-air public spaces, presenting concerts that combine classical music with orchestral arrangements of popular music. It has participated in many music festivals, such as the Israel Festival, the Jerusalem Theatre’s “End of the Summer” festival, the Jerusalem Season of Culture’s “Tuk Tuk” festival, the Jerusalem International Film Festival, the “Sounds of Music in the Desert” festival, and many more.

The orchestra has also collaborated with local artists, including singer songwriter Arkadi Duchin in his “There is Love Within Me” show; Yaron London, who narrated his translation of “L’histoire du soldat” and “Le Carnaval des animaux”; Salamanca’s rendition of the movie “The Dybbuk”; Hadas Balas, Michael Greilsammer, and many more.

In 2015, the orchestra initiated the first project of its kind: the Incubator for Musical Arrangement – an internship for young creators interested in arranging music.

Since 2016, the group has produced a series of concerts in alternative spaces, including the Klal building, Hamiffal, City Hall, the YMCA, and more.

In 2017, the orchestra made a music video for the AIPAC convention in Washington. It was screened on stage in front of 18,000 spectators, and was received with high acclaim.
