"The Barbur Gallery was founded in July 2005 by young graduates of the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design. It is a perpetually changing project, aiming to explore the concept of the gallery and the connection between professional art and communal activity. The founders of the gallery believe in the importance of dialogue and collaboration in society as well as between artists, and aspire to create a non-hierarchical, dynamic space, housing a wide array of creative and social enterprises, without the influence of the art market, fashion trends and personal taste.

Barbur is an open and dynamic system, inviting in everyone who wishes to take an active part in forming its identity. The gallery’s mandate is to incorporate art and collective works into the community, and to provide a platform for artists who have not yet been revealed to the public.

Barbur operates alongside museums and commercial galleries, while providing both a stage and a meeting place for people and creators in all fields – plastic art, cinema, poetry, music, dance, and architecture. The gallery hosts monthly exhibitions, movies, musical events, poetry, lectures, dance, art classes, workshops and social and community projects. All activities are not-for-profit, and entrance is always free."
